Patio Chair Lacing Instructions

Because of constant exposure to the elements, you can expect to change the vinyl lacing on your patio chair eventually. Over time, the lacing deteriorates and starts to fall apart. When this happens, you can purchase a kit and replace the lacing on your own. This is a cost effective alternative to replacing the chair with a new one. You can get repair kits at most home improvement centers.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the screws that secure each vinyl strip to the chair frame. You can cut the strips and measure the chair frame or you can use the existing vinyl strips to use for measurement.

    • 2

Measure the length of one strip and then cut enough strips to replace the chair to that length with a pair of scissors.

    • 3

Stack each strip on top of each other and drill a ¼-inch hole through each end of the strips.

    • 4

Cut a 45-degree angle into each corner of each strip with the scissors. This helps to prevent sharp corners that could scratch your leg or back.

    • 5

Slide the fasteners into each hole you drilled and then place the vinyl strips into a pot of hot water for five minutes. This helps to make the vinyl pliable.

    • 6

Place a screw on one strip into the hole on the inside edge of the seat frame, loop the strip over the frame and stretch it towards the front of the chair. Loop it over the front frame and then secure it to the front frame with the fastener. Do this for each strip going from front to back.

    • 7

Secure a strap to the side of the chair frame just as you did to the back of the chair frame.

    • 8

Weave the strip over and under each strap going form from front to back until you reach the other side of the chair. Loop the strap over the frame and secure it to the frame with the fastener. Do this with each strip until you reach the front of the chair.
