Paint Colors for Wood Stoves

A wood stove gives any home a functional and eye-catching element. While the stove's central purpose is to heat your home during winter, it doesn't have to be an eyesore. If your wood stove is in dire need of a new paint job, you can refinish it in one of a number of suitable, muted colors.
  1. Black

    • Black is arguably the most common color for wood stoves. If you don't want your wood stove to be a focal point in your home, painting it black will help it blend in to the background and not be too noticeable. Wood stoves typically are painted in a flat, or matte, color rather than a glossy one, and it's important to buy wood stove-specific paint that can withstand high heat.

    Rust

    • Painting your wood stove in a rust color will give it a dated look, which is desirable if you live in an old home or are painting the stove in your cottage. Rust colors include different shades of red and reddish-brown, and choosing a flat rust color is imperative.

    Gray

    • If you find that black is too dark for the look you wish to achieve, and a brighter color is too bold, paint your wood stove in a matte gray. Because gray has many different shades, you can pick a gray that works for the stove's surroundings, choosing between a charcoal gray or a light gray.

    Others

    • Painting a wood stove dark green is suitable in different homes. While not as common as a black or rust-colored stove, a crisp or faded forest green will occasionally work. Other acceptable colors include brown, magenta and even dark or light blue.
