How to Redo an Armoire Into a Bar Cabinet

A bar is an essential piece of furniture in the home of someone who loves to entertain. However, these pieces are not only becoming more difficult to find, they often require that bottles of liquor be left in open view, which some homeowners may find distasteful. If you are searching for something a bit more discreet, you can turn an old armoire into a bar cabinet with only a few adaptations. Nobody will know what the doors conceal unless you wish to offer them a cocktail.

Instructions

    • 1

Begin with a clean armoire with no damage and no rough or splintered areas. Finish or refinish the armoire to match your existing decor. Let the piece dry completely if you stain or paint it.

    • 2

Tile the bottom of the largest interior space of the armoire. This will be where you keep bottles of liquor, so choose tiles that are moisture-resistant and nonporous. Remember to grout your tiles and let this area dry for a full day before continuing.

Cover the vertical back surfaces of the armoire with laminated wallpaper or contact paper. Or use more tile, if you prefer. This will both protect the armoire from splashing and cover any precut holes that were formerly used for electronic component wiring.

Fill your armoire bar with your liquor and bar accessories. Close the doors and enjoy an attractive piece that contains a surprise.
