How to Apply Beeswax to Drawers

Not only is beeswax suitable for soap and candle making, it also serves as an effective wood polish and preservative. Because beeswax does not dissolve in water, it maintains an impermeable layer over wood to protect it from moisture. If you have drawers that do not glide smoothly, a small amount of beeswax on the interior surfaces of the drawers will often solve the problem. Apply beeswax to drawers to improve the functionality of a dresser or desk.

Instructions

    • 1

Break off a small corner of the beeswax cake with your fingers or cut off a corner with a sharp knife.

    • 2

Remove the sticky drawer from the unit and turn it onto one side to expose the rails of the drawer.

    • 3

Hold the beeswax in your fingers and pass it lightly over the rail of the drawer where it connects to the unit. Coat the entire rail lightly with beeswax.

    • 4

Turn the drawer over and repeat the same process on the other side of the drawer.

    • 5

Place the drawer upside down and pass the beeswax over the bottom rail, if applicable.

    • 6

Cut another corner from the beeswax cake and pass it over the areas on the unit that connect with the drawer -- on the right and left sides and on the bottom of the drawer area -- to coat the areas evenly with beeswax.

    • 7

Replace the drawer in the slot and move it in and out several times to lubricate the wood thoroughly. You should notice the drawer moving more easily.
