Hallway Furniture Ideas for a Second Floor

While the furniture in a downstairs hallway tends to be more functional, like a bench to sit on when entering, there’s a bit more room for whimsy and play when outfitting an upstairs hallway. Perhaps you’ve had your eye on an entry table with a fun finish but no drawers for storage -- this piece may just have a home in your second-floor hallway.
  1. Seating

    • While first-floor hallway seating is typically about accommodating guests, seating in a second-floor hallway is more about the person or people who live in the home. Therefore, a single, comfortable chair is ideal to sit and take a quick rest. Small chairs are best for a hallway, and this is even a great place to incorporate a fun fabric as you don’t have to worry about coordinating it with other upholstered pieces.

    Table and Lamp

    • Even upstairs, a table and lamp are mainstays of a hallway. These pieces serve as much function as they do form. A small table lamp is good for display during the day and even better for lighting the night. Keep the table in proportion with the size of your hallway, and be mindful of sharp corners to avoid hazards as people pass by.

    Mirrors

    • Whether paired with a table or arranged on its own, a mirror is just as much in place in a second-floor hallway as the first floor. If used without a table, mirrors are ideal to arrange in a gallery style for display. Consider mixing shapes or different-colored frames for interest.

    Desk

    • If no other space in your home allows, then your upstairs hallway may be the ideal spot for a small desk. Complete those important tasks or carve out an out-of-the-way space to finish paperwork. Outfit the desk with baskets to house papers and to keep the area attractive but functional.
