How to Fix Door Hinge Holes in Cabinets

Screws are used to hold hinges to a cabinet door. Since hinges come in a variety of shapes and sizes, they do not have their screw holes in the exact same locations. This means that if you change a cabinet's hinges, you could be left with visible holes in the cabinet where the old hinge's screws were. Do not let the holes stop you from replacing your cabinet's hinges. This is a simple repair that will take you less than 10 minutes.

Instructions

Sand the cabinet's surface, over the screw holes, with a 220-grit sandpaper. Vacuum the dust off the cabinet's surface using a hose attachment.

Scoop a small amount of wood putty up with a 2-inch putty knife. Dab it over the screw holes. Scrape the putty knife over the cabinet's surface to push the putty into the holes. Dab some more putty over the area. Lightly run the putty knife over the screw holes, leaving a thin layer on the cabinet's surface. Allow the putty to dry for about 20 minutes.

Push on the putty with a finger to see if it feels hard. If it does, sand it smooth with the cabinet's surface using a 220-grit sandpaper. Apply stain over the wood putty, using a sponge paintbrush, to match the area with the rest of the cabinet's surface.
