How to Hide Cables in Cabinets

Many different systems can crowd into a living area, such as a TV, surround sound system, stereo system, satellite receiver and DVD player. Although these different technologies can be enjoyable, the amount of wires and cables needed to hook up and power them can be overwhelming. The messy accumulation of wires and cables can really take away from the attractive appearance of an entertainment system. While you cannot simply get rid of these wires, you don't have to stare at the unattractive sight of a tangled, cable pile.

Instructions

    • 1

Purchase screws, hooks, or pegs (whichever you desire) to organize your cables in the back of your cabinet. They do not need to be very large, just big enough to hold one of your cables.

    • 2

Drill screws. if you are using them, into the back of your cabinet/entertainment center that contains all of your entertainment equipment. If you chose to use hooks or pegs, install them according to their packaging instructions. You should place your screws, hooks, or pegs , about six inches apart on the back of your cabinet/entertainment center. It will depend on how many cables you have as to how many screws, hooks, or pegs you will need to install; you could probably assume two to three per cable.

    • 3

Wrap the cables individually around a couple of screws, hooks, or pegs. You could wrap them in a figure-8 motion or just in a circular motion. It is OK at this step if the cables stick out past the entertainment center's edges.

    • 4

Attach the portions of cable that are not directly on screws, hooks, or pegs to the back of the cabinet/entertainment center, using the wire tacks, for extra support and control. This should eliminate any cables from being visible from the front.

For any remaining cable that needs to be controlled, use AV ties to keep them bundled and organized.
