Dip a soft cloth in either apple cider vinegar or distilled white vinegar. Squeeze the cloth, removing any excess liquid, and wipe across the cabinet. The acidity in the vinegar removes heat stains from stainless steel surfaces.
Mix equal parts baking soda and warm water in a small bowl until a thick paste forms. Wipe the mixture across all areas of the stainless steel cabinet. Wipe a cloth dipped in warm water across, removing the mixture. The baking soda solution removes stains without scratching the steel.
Brighten up dull or faded stainless steel with glass cleaner. Spray the cleaner on the dull spots and dab a cloth dipped in warm water over those surfaces, cleaning off the spray. Blot a towel against the steel, which dries the surface without leaving streaks.
Rub polishing pads over the cabinet. Use pads specifically designed for stainless steel, as the pads come with a polish applied to one side. Move the pad back and forth across the cabinet, following the natural grain of the steel, as it buffs out scratches and other minor damage.
Use Scotch-Brite pads on severe scratches. Follow the grain of the steel and gently rub the pads across the areas surrounding the damage. The pads give the stainless steel a brushed finish and when you rub the surrounding areas, the repaired area blends into the cabinet.
