How to Fix a Hairline Crack on an Antique Lamp

There are many types and styles of antique lamps, from Victorian-era ceramic lamps to lava lamps from the 1960s. Hairline cracks in a lamp are small and often invisible breaks in the glass or ceramic of the lamp that can result from improper storage or drastic temperature fluctuations. It is important to repair these cracks, even though they seem minor, because the cracks can grow and ultimately ruin your lamp.

  Purchase an adhesive that is recommended for the material your lamp is made of, ensuring it is non-flammable and will not yellow over time. Different adhesive brands work better on ceramic or glass, so selecting an adhesive specific for your lamp will provide the best results. Adhesives like this can be found in craft stores or home improvement stores.

  Gently wipe the lamp down with a soft cloth to remove dust and other particles that will inhibit the adhesive.

  Apply a small amount of adhesive along the crack, ensuring the adhesive extends inside of the crack. Wipe away excess adhesive using the soft cloth.

  Place a small piece of masking tape over the crack to keep it held in place while the adhesive dries. Allow the adhesive to dry thoroughly, following its package instructions. Remove the tape after the glue has dried completely.
