How to Clean the Custom Cover on a Pool Table

Keeping your pool table covered when not in use is a wise decision. An uncovered table is susceptible to accidents such as spills, and it can be prone to accumulating dust and animal hair and dander if you own a pet. A custom cover is available from many sources in a number of materials but the most common is vinyl. The covers vary in design from simple fitted throws to more framed forms with an insert that brings the table surface up to the height of the sides. When covered, the table can pull double duty as a serving table for parties and a large area craft table. How you keep the cover clean depends on the material but most covers feature an outer vinyl surface you can maintain to look new and attractive.

Instructions

    • 1

Wipe the vinyl cover with a slightly damp clean cloth. For minor cleaning such as dusting, you don’t need to apply any cleaner to the surface of the cover.

    • 2

Read the directions that came with the custom cover to find out the manufacturer’s recommendation for cleaning the cover. The instructions are determined by the material the cover is made from and its method of construction. Their instructions preempt any other cleaning instructions.

    • 3

Soak a clean cloth in a solution of warm water and mild soap, then ring it out and wipe the cover using light pressure to remove stains.

    • 4

Clean the seams and stitching of the cover, which often picks up dust and dirt. You may need to use a thin piece of plastic or wood to remove any material that has seeped into the groove of the seams.

    • 5

Apply a vinyl cleaner to perform a deeper cleaning of the vinyl surface. Using only water and soap cleans the surface of the cover but doesn’t condition the vinyl and keep it moisturized.
