How to Create a High Gloss Paint Job on a Piece of Furniture

High-gloss paint leaves a glossy and easy to clean surface on walls and furniture. In order to get the glossy surface you have to properly prepare the wooden furniture you want to paint before you paint it. Sanding is essential for the proper shine on a high-gloss surface. Also, a coat of primer will allow the new high-gloss paint to stick to the wood better.

Instructions

    • 1

Sand the piece of furniture down by hand with the 100-grit sandpaper. The surface of the piece should be rough to the touch when you are done.

    • 2

Vacuum up any sawdust and paint dust from the sanding. Dampen a rag and wipe down the furniture to remove any left over dust particles.

    • 3

Paint over the surface with a primer. Coat the whole piece with the primer and allow it to dry for at least 24 hours. Rinse off the paintbrush.

    • 4

Paint the furniture piece with the high-gloss paint. Paint the entire piece of furniture and allow it to dry for at least two to three hours. Add a second coat of paint over the first coat for a smooth, high-gloss finish.
