How to Fix a Wobbly Armoire

An armoire is a sturdy piece of furniture that traditionally holds both folded clothing and clothing hung on hangers. It is a handy piece of furniture to have, especially in a house with few closets, but over time, your armoire may start to wobble. The wobbliness may be due to a change in the wood from humidity or from an uneven floor. A wobbly armoire is fixable with wooden shims.

Things You'll Need

  • Wooden shims
  • Utility knife
  • Flat-head screwdriver (optional)

Instructions

    • 1

Rock the armoire carefully to discover which leg is slightly shorter than the others.

    • 2

Slide a wooden shim, narrow point first, underneath the shortest leg until it cannot slide in any farther.

    • 3

Score the shim deeply with a utility knife, creating a horizontal line flush against the foot.

    • 4

Snap the excess wood off with your fingers. You may also use a fla-thead screwdriver to pry the excess up and snap it.
