How to Turn a Porch Swing

A porch swing is a chairlike swing that hangs a few inches above the floor of the porch. Generally the swing is held up by chains connected to heavy-duty hooks in the porch ceiling. To balance the swing, the two chains are often split into four smaller chain lengths, one attached to each corner. If you want to make the swing face the other direction, you can turn the swing.

Instructions

    • 1

Place a sawhorse or waist-high table underneath the center of the porch swing. This will relieve tension on the chains, allowing you to turn the swing.

    • 2

Unhook both hanging chain hooks one at a time. The swing will be supported by the sawhorse or table.

    • 3

Lift the porch swing and turn it 180 degrees so it is facing the opposite direction.

    • 4

Reconnect the chain hooks. While holding the porch swing in place, remove the sawhorse or table. You can also use another person to help with this task.
