Remove all shelves from the hutch. Take off any doors, and remove the hinges. Put the shelves, doors and main frame of the hutch under a drop cloth outdoors or in a well-ventilated room. Sand all parts of the hutch. Vacuum the sanding dust from each piece.
Spray primer over the entire hutch, shelves and doors to provide full coverage. Let the primer dry for two hours. Spray the items with your preferred paint color, and let it dry for two hours. Spray a second coat of paint over the entire hutch, and let it dry for up to four hours.
Measure the back, inside wall of the hutch, if there is one, to find the length and width. Select a wallpaper or wrapping paper that coordinates with the paint color, and cut it to this size. Spray the back of the paper with adhesive, and apply it to the rear inside wall of the hutch.
Measure the underside of the top of the hutch, and purchase a wine rack and stemware rack small enough to hang on the underside of the hutch’s top in the space available above the top shelf. Install the rack with screws.
Put the shelves back into the hutch. If you installed a stemware rack, then hang a glass from the rack to ensure there is space for the shelves below the glasses. Reattach the doors, and secure the hinges.
Place the hutch-turned-wine-cabinet in your home where you want it. Add your wine bottles and glasses to the cabinet. Add accessory items, such as corkscrews, stoppers and wine-pouring spouts to open spaces on shelves to make them available without cluttering the cabinet.
