How to Get Scratches Out of Leather Furniture With Lanolin Cream

Finding a scratch on your leather furniture can be an unpleasant discovery. Leather furniture brings class and sophistication to your decor, but when it is scratched, it becomes an eyesore. Because leather furniture is so expensive, replacing it might not be an option. However, you can repair even the deepest scratches yourself without hiring a professional. You just need a few household items and lanolin cream.

  • Scissors
  • Magnifying glass (optional)
  • White distilled vinegar
  • Linseed oil
  • Bowl
  • Soft cloth
  • Towel
  • Pure lanolin cream

      Remove frayed edges along the scratch with scissors. Cut as close to the leather as possible, while exercising extreme caution to avoid further damage to the leather. Work in a well lit area and use a magnifying glass if necessary.

      Combine one part vinegar and two parts linseed oil in a small bowl. Apply the solution to the area with a soft cloth, working in a circular motion. Wipe the leather clean with a cloth dipped in water and blot dry with a towel.

      Apply pure lanolin cream to the scratch with a soft cloth. Rub the cream into and along the edges of the crack to soften the leather. Continue applying thin layers of lanolin cream until the scratch is no longer visible. In addition to hiding the scratch, lanolin cream will also help to protect your furniture from future damage.
