How to Make a Bench With a Coat Rack for a Foyer

Especially if you do not have a closest by your front door, a bench with a coat rack is an efficient tool for keeping your foyer tidy and organized. Having a bench is also convenient for sitting down to put on your shoes and boots before heading out. Easily hang up your jackets and coats on hooks without having to deal with the hassle of hangers. This bench is simple to assemble and can be adapted to fit the sizing needs of your specific foyer.

Things You'll Need

  • 12 foot, 2 by 6 lumber
  • 5 1/2 foot, 2 by 3 lumber
  • 2, 5 foot boards, 2 by 3 lumber
  • 2 1/2 foot board, 2 by 3 lumber
  • Wooden coat hooks
  • 4 inch galvanized nails
  • Hammer
  • Tape measure

Instructions

      Cut two pieces of 2 by 6 lumber, 42 inches long each. These will be the sitting boards of the bench.

      Cut one board of 2 by 6 lumber, 30 inches long.

      Cut two board of 2 by 6 lumber, 11 inches long each. These will be the two braces for the bench.

      Cut four pieces of 2 by 3 lumber, 15 inches long each. These will be the legs of the bench.

      Bolt the legs from Step 4 to the bench braces. Two legs to each brace. Nail the 30 inch long board from Step 2 in between the two legs on both sides. Nail the two seat boards on top.

      Nail one 5 foot, 2 by 6 board of lumber vertically to the back left hand side of the bench. Nail the other 5 foot board to the back right hand side of the back. Nail the 2 1/2 half foot board along the top, attaching these two boards together. Attach as many wooden coat hooks along this top board as you would like.
