Instructions

    • 1

Measure and cut two 1-by-12-inch pine boards measuring 36 inches high. These are the two side pieces.

    • 2

Measure and cut three 1-by-12-inch pine boards measuring 40 1/2 inches. These are the shelf boards.

    • 3

Measure and cut four 1-by-12-inch pine boards measuring 17 7/8 inches long. These are the cubby dividers.

    • 4

Measure and cut six 1-by-3-inch pine boards measuring 42 inches. These are the shelf trim pieces.

    • 5

Build a box using the two 36-inch pine side pieces and the top and the three 40 1/2-inch shelf pieces. Fasten the top and bottom shelf first, followed by the middle shelf. Use a tape measure to be sure that the middle shelf is 16 7/8 inches from both the top and bottom shelf. Check to be sure it is level. Use wood glue on all touching surfaces followed by three 2-inch wood screws for each shelf per each side.

    • 6

Measure and make a mark in 13-inch intervals along the front of each shelf. You should have two marks on each shelf.

    • 7

Place the bottom cubby divider pieces in using the marks as a guide. Use wood glue to attach the top of the bottom dividers to the middle shelf. Let dry thoroughly.

    • 8

Place the top cubby divider pieces in using the marks as a guide. Use wood glue to attach the bottom of the dividers to the middle shelf. Let dry thoroughly.

    • 9

Attach one 1-by-3-inch trim board to the bottom shelf using 2-inch finish nails. Use two nails to attach the trim to each of the outside frame pieces and two nails to attach the trim to each of the bottom divider pieces for a total of eight nails. Repeat for the other side.

    • 10

Measure 17 5/8 inches from the bottom of the cabinet and make a mark. Attach a 1-by-3-inch trim board across the middle front of the cabinet using the mark as a guide. Use two nails to attach the trim to each of the outside frame pieces and two nails to attach the trim to each of the middle divider pieces. Repeat for the other side.

    • 11

Attach one 1-by-3-inch trim board to the top shelf using 2-inch finish nails. Use two nails to attach the trim to each of the outside frame pieces and two nails to attach the trim to each of the top divider pieces for a total of eight nails. Repeat for the other side.

    • 12

Sand the cabinet using medium-grade sandpaper. Dust shavings off of the cabinet using a tack cloth.

    • 13

Stain the cabinet in the color of your choice using a high-quality wood stain. Let the stain dry thoroughly.

    • 14

Place a piece of sticky chalk paper under each cubby along the trim. This will allow you to personalize the cubbies.

    • 15

Place the six wicker baskets in the cubbies to complete the cabinet.
