Instructions

    • 1
      Barstools are great for gatherings.

Cut a piece of 1-by-12-inch lumber to measure 11 1/2 inches long. This is the seat for the stool. Cut two pieces of 1-by-4-inch lumber to measure 11 1/2 inches long. These are the short aprons for the seat. Cut two pieces of 1-by-4-inch lumber to measure 13 inches long for the long aprons. Arrange the four seat aprons around the seat to form a square. The long aprons should go over the end of the short aprons. Screw the seat structure together with 2 1/2-inch wood screws.

    • 2

Cut two pieces of 2-by-2-inch lumber to measure 30 inches long. These are legs for one side of the stool. Cut two more pieces of 2-by-2-inch lumber to measure 10 1/8 inches. These are the top and bottom of one side of the stool. Repeat to make a top and bottom for the other side.

    • 3

Arrange the top, bottom and two legs on a flat surface to form a rectangle. The legs should go over the ends of the top and bottom pieces. Screw the side together with 2 1/2-inch wood screws. Repeat this for the other side.

    • 4

Set the two sides up on their bottoms and arrange them so they are parallel and about 1 foot apart. Slide the seat structure in between the two side structures so the top of the seat is flush with the tops of the sides. Screw the seat to the legs by screwing 2 1/2-inch screws through the seat aprons and into the side structures.

    • 5

Cut two supports for the stool from 2-by-2-inch lumber. The supports should measure 13 inches long. Position one support in between the front two legs, 14 inches from the bottom. Screw through the legs and into the ends of the supports. Repeat on the back of the stool.

    • 6

Sand any rough spots on the barstool. Fill screw holes with wood filler.

    • 7

Apply wood primer to the stool. After the primer has dried, apply an even coat of wood paint. Allow the paint to dry completely.
