How to Change the Face of a Grandfather Clock

If you own a grandfather clock with a faded or damaged face, it doesn't mean you have to sell the antique item. Instead, it's possible to change the face of the clock with minimal effort to give the clock an updated look. Replacement grandfather clock faces are available in many styles and sizes to fit virtually every clock. Instructions

    • 1

Open the clock's case and remove the hands from the clock by pulling them out. If your clock requires the use of a screwdriver or Allen wrench to remove the hands, use the correct tool.

    • 2

Hold the replacement grandfather clock face over the existing face to compare the sizes of the two faces. If the replacement face is slightly larger, carefully trim it to the correct size with a razor blade or scissors.

    • 3

Place several small beads of hot melt glue on the back of the replacement clock face and push the image on to the clock. Push down on all areas of the replacement image to smooth out the glue.

    • 4

      Replace the clock's hands.
