Instructions

    • 1

Cut your posts. Cut four 6-feet long 2-by-2-inch posts. Cut four more, each 8 feet long. Cut six 2-by-68-inch long posts. Cut eight 22 1/4-by-2-by-1-inch posts.

    • 2

Sand the wood with 220-grit sand paper. In a well ventilated area, stain the wood in the color of your choice. Allow the stain to dry for four hours before applying the second coat. Let the second coat dry overnight.

    • 3

Build two 6-by-8-foot frames. Lay one 8-foot long post on a flat surface and screw it into the end of a 6-foot long post with 3-inch screws, creating an L shape. Finish the frame by screwing the other 8-foot long post to the other end of the short piece. Screw the remaining 6-foot long post in between the two long pieces of wood. Repeat the process with the second frame.

    • 4

Sand the frames with 220-grit sandpaper. Cut 1/2-inch plywood 6 feet tall by 8 feet wide. Sand the edges with the sandpaper.

    • 5

Lay one of the frames flat on the ground. Position the plywood on top of the frame, ensuring the edges are even on all sides. Screw the plywood into the frame using 1-inch screws. Insert a screw every 24 inches. Place the second frame on top of the plywood. Use 2 1/2-inch long finish screws to secure the frame to the plywood. Space the screws 24 inches apart.

    • 6

Build four 2-foot by 5-foot-10-inch vertical sections inside the frames. Screw the wood in place. Place the first piece of wood 2 feet from the inside edge and screw it into the frame with 3-inch screws, from the outside of the frame through the wood, into the end piece of the 5-foot-10-inch post. Repeat this for the remaining two posts.

    • 7

Create 12 individual frames within the large frame. Draw a line every 2 feet along each vertical section. Center the wood horizontally inside each marking. Screw the posts in place with 3-inch screws, carefully maneuvering your screw gun inside each square in order to screw the wood together.

    • 8

Apply construction adhesive to the plywood in each box. Cut 24-inch tin ceiling panels into 21 1/2-inch wide by 21 1/4-inch tall squares. Insert your two tin panels into the frames, pressing them against the plywood. Allow the glue to dry for at least two hours.

    • 9

Flip the divider over and glue the remaining 12 tin tiles into the frames on the other side. Allow the glue to dry for two hours.

    • 10

Screw eye-hooks into each top corner of the two 2-by-2's that make up the top section of the divider. Screw two more into the top center. Screw correlating S-hooks into the ceiling. Hang the tin room divider from the S-hooks using small length chains, cut so the divider hangs midway between the floor and ceiling. The length of the chains will vary, depending on the height of your ceiling.
