Remove the outer cover on the puck lights, which is often fastened to the rest of the light with plastic tabs and can be released by applying pressure at various points around the light. Plug the lights into the intended outlet. Use the light produced to choose the position of all the lights to your preference, taking into account the length of the electrical cord and the route it must take to get from the outlet to the light. Mark the screw attachment holes from each light on the installation surface.
Remove and unplug the lights. Disconnect the electrical cord from the lights. Begin the cord at the light and determine its exact path back to the outlet. Drill any holes necessary in horizontal or vertical cabinet or shelving boards and pass the electrical cord through these holes. Reattach the electrical cord to the light.
Drill a hole into each marking using a drill bit that is a little smaller than the installation screws. Return the lights to their positions and install them in place by tightening each of the installation screws in their pilot holes using a drill. Replace the puck light cover onto the exposed puck light.
Recheck to ensure the light is not plugged in. Begin near the light and tighten the electrical cord away from the light and along the predetermined path, securing it every 6 inches with carpentry staples. Continue to staple every 6 inches or fewer until the electrical cord reaches the chosen outlet. Bundle any excess cord and secure it with a cable tie. Pull any staples that accidentally pierce the cord and wrap the section of cord with electrical tape before restapling.
