Merillat Wall Cabinet to Hold Plates

Merillat cabinetry offers wall units to display your plate collection, or show off your everyday or special china in the kitchen or dining room. Merillat sells cabinets fitting various budgets. The Michigan-based company, in business since 1946, is a division of Masco Cabinetry. Its products are sold by dealers throughout the United States and Canada.
  1. Masterpiece

    • Merillat's top cabinetry line includes a lifetime warranty. Wall units in the Masterpiece collection feature semicustom touches and six types of woods or laminates, including oak, cherry, birch, maple and hickory. The company has a selection of 52 finishes to customize a china display wall cabinet. These include a number of glazed, painted or burnished finishes.

    Classic

    • With a 25-year warranty, the Merillat Classic line includes five types of woods or laminates and 19 finishes. Of these, 12 are glaze finishes. The wood or laminates include all of the types offered in the Masterpiece line except birch. A less expensive line, the Essentials, does not include wall cabinetry suitable for displaying plates, as this line does not include glass inserts for the cabinet doors.

    Glass Inserts

    • Once you've decided on your Merillat wall cabinet, choose the glass door inserts that will best display your plates. For a Merillat Masterpiece cabinet, combine either solid wood or aluminum frames with door inserts to customize the cabinet. Choices include clear, layered, textured or etched glass, along with mullion or camed designs for additional style. For Classic wall cabinets, available doors include standard, arch, prairie or square mullions with tempered glass inserts.

    Care

    • Clean wooden cabinets with a soft cloth, either dampening the cloth lightly or using a spray dust remover for furniture. For heavier cleaning, use a mild soap and wipe the cabinet dry. Merillat recommends washing and polishing cabinets at least annually, using a light coating of good quality polish suitable for fine furniture. Do not use steel wool or detergents on cabinetry, as they mar the finish. Avoid paste wax and any silicone-type polishes since the residue is a dust magnet. Use commercial cleaners for the glass. Removing the glass from the cabinet door allows more thorough cleaning. To remove glass inserts, loosen the screws and gently lift out them out. Spray glass cleaner onto a cloth to clean the inserts rather than squirting the cleaner directly on the glass.
