How to Convert an Armoire Into a Sewing Cabinet

If you're into sewing, you know that there is a lot of gear associated with the activity, which can quickly clutter a room. Contain your sewing materials in a neat and easy-to-access area by constructing a sewing cabinet. Use an armoire that you already own or purchase an inexpensive, pre-owned piece. With the addition of some easy-to-acquire equipment and accessories, you can repurpose the armoire into a cabinet that houses all of your sewing materials.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply wood glue to the back of the thread spool rack and position it onto the armoire door. Drill 1/2-inch wood screws into the top and bottom of each of the sides of the rack. Set spools of thread onto the rack.

    • 2

Glue cork board to the interior of the opposite armoire door. Use push pins to secure to the cork board any patterns and images of designs you will be sewing while using the cabinet.

    • 3

Set your sewing machine on the shelf inside the armoire.

    • 4

Hang lengths of fabric on hangers and place them on the bar inside the armoire.

    • 5

Store needles, bobbins, ribbon, scissors and measuring tapes within the drawers of the armoire. Store the items in covered boxes and label them before setting them in the drawers to add to the ease of the storage and to easily located items when you need them.
