Clean the cabinet and door of any dirt and debris. Wipe down everything with a degreaser and a clean cloth.
Remove the cabinet door and set it aside. Remove the hinges from the cabinet using a screwdriver. Set aside the hardware to be reinstalled later.
Smooth and degloss the surfaces of the cabinet and door using fine grit sandpaper and a sanding block. Sanding also will remove the highly glossed look on the cabinet and prepare the cabinet for painting.
Apply painting primer to the cabinet and cabinet door with a paintbrush. Spread the primer on larger surfaces with a paint roller. Let the primer dry for two or three hours.
Choose a paint color for the cabinet. Bright paint can make the cabinet stand out, while neutral colored paints will help the cabinet to blend with the rest of your home’s décor. Bring home several paint swatches from the paint store before choosing a color.
Apply the chosen paint color to the cabinet and door. Paint the intricate details and corners of the cabinet with a paintbrush. Cover the larger surfaces of the cabinet with a paint roller. Let the paint dry for two or three hours and apply a second coat. Allow the last coat of paint to dry for three or four days.
Reinstall the cabinet door on the cabinet. Screw the hinges in place with a screwdriver and screws. Reinstall the door hardware with a screwdriver.
