Look for a knockout hole on the DVD cabinet. Some cabinets will come with a small pre-made hole for installing a lock. This hole is generally at the top of the unit or in the middle of the door.
Create your own hole for the lock at the top or in the middle of one door of the DVD cabinet if there is no pre-made hole. Use a drill bit that is slightly smaller in diameter than the lock you will be installing or use a very small drill bit to carve out a hole that is slightly smaller than the lock’s diameter.
Take the lock bolt, or the metal piece of the lock that sticks out from the cylinder of the lock, off the back of the cam lock. Push the cam lock cylinder into the hole that you have drilled with the key facing upward inside the lock.
Hold the cam lock in place and slide the retaining clip into the grooves on the cylinder of the lock to hold the lock firmly in place. Attach the lock bolt to the back of the cam lock cylinder so that the metal piece is facing up.
Install the lock catch on the inside of the opposite cabinet door. Follow the directions that comes with the particular cam lock you are installing to determine how far in on the cabinet door the catch needs to be installed. Most lock catches are simply screwed into place.
Close the door and turn the key. The metal piece on the lock bolt should catch in the lock catch, holding the door closed.
