How to Move Storage Sheds in Houston, Texas

Houston is known for its hot and humid summers, which is why you should select a time in the morning or during cooler winter days to carry out a project as ambitious as moving a shed. Often people decide to move storage sheds because they are conducting home-improvement projects on the opposite ends of their homes and would like better access to the shed. You might also move a shed because it's in an area with poor drainage.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove everything that you own in the storage shed and place the items in boxes. Items on the walls should be removed to prevent them falling out and breaking.

    • 2

Dig a trench at least a foot deep all around the storage shed to find out what is supporting the shed. Often there will be a piece of lumber, brick or steel supporting the shed on the ground. Dig underneath whatever is supporting the shed.

    • 3

Place a hydraulic automotive floor jack underneath the shed support. Use a piece of lumber to put under the jack to offer it support. Lift up the corner of the shed. Place pieces of lumber around each wall stud to lift it at least 2 inches off the ground.

    • 4

Support the interior walls by drilling two pieces of 4-by-6's into the width of the shed and two pieces of 2-by-6's on the shorter sides. Use 3-inch deck screws for screwing in the pieces of lumber. Drill in 4-by-4 posts on every corner for additional support.

    • 5

Lift up one side of the shed with the hydraulic automotive floor jack a few inches and place bricks around the shed. Use the hydraulic automotive floor jack on the other side and wedge bricks underneath. Place large rollers underneath the shed facing the same direction to move. You will need three of them, one for the front, middle and back.

    • 6

Push the shed on the rollers to the desired location. Once at the location use the hydraulic floor jack to lift the shed, so you can remove the rollers. Place your items in the shed.
