Plasma TV Hanging Instructions

Hanging your plasma TV on the wall requires time and attention to detail. You'll need to know how to use basic tools such as a screwdriver, hammer and level. You'll also need enough patience to measure the hardware required and the area where you want to hang your TV. If you work carefully and ensure the wall mount attaches securely to the wall studs, your installation should serve its purpose for as long as you wish.

Instructions

    • 1

Identify the brackets that go on the back of the television and the mount that will be attached to the wall.

    • 2

Find the four mounting holes on the back of your television. If you can't identify them, consult the manual for your TV.

    • 3

Remove the short screws covering the mounting holes, if any.

    • 4

Compare the short screws to the screws included with your television mounting kit to determine which diameter you'll need for the brackets that go on the back of the TV.

    • 5

Hold one of the brackets for the back of the TV next to the screws to determine the length you'll need. If you don't have screws of the right length in the correct diameter, add rubber gaskets from the mounting kit.

    • 6

Attach the brackets vertically to the back of the TV. Tighten the screws by hand until they're too hard to turn, then use a manual screwdriver. If you feel too much resistance, remove the screws and check the diameter to ensure you're using the correct size.

    • 7

Insert the mounting bars through the brackets on one side of the TV. Slide the pivoting device onto the bars, then slide the bars through the brackets on the other side. Tighten the screws holding the mounting bars to the brackets.

    • 8

Use a stud finder to locate a stud in the wall where you've decided to hang your TV. Drive a nail partway into the stud through the sheetrock.

    • 9

Find the center of the stud. If necessary, drive another nail into the wall 1/2 inch to the left of the first nail, then 1/2 inch to the right, to ensure you've found the stud's center. The lag bolts that hold the wall mount should be placed in the center of the stud for maximum strength.

    • 10

Use the stud finder to locate a second stud and mark it by driving a nail partway into it. Find the center of the stud in the same manner as the first.

    • 11

Place the mount against the wall in the area you've marked with the nails. You might not be able to center the mount exactly, since you'll have to work within the area containing the studs.

    • 12

Mark the position of the wall mount with light pencil marks on the wall. Check the placement with a level before attaching the wall mount to the studs.

    • 13

Attach the mount to the wall with lag bolts, using a socket wrench to tighten them.

    • 14

Lift the TV and set the pivoting device on the wall mount. This step requires another person to help you do this.

    • 15

Tighten the screws holding the pivoting device to the wall mount.
