How to Find a Good Mattress

The options for a good mattress seem to be endless: pillow tops, memory foam, sleep numbers and a host of other varieties are on the market. Finding a mattress that's right for you can be overwhelming. Most stores have mattresses on display and many will even allow a trial period to make sure the one you choose is best for you.

Instructions

Ask friends and relatives what kind of mattresses they have. If they have one of the newer varieties, ask if you can test it out. This can simply be lying on the bed for 10 to 15 minutes to see how it feels.

Determine how much you want to spend on a new mattress. Prices can range from several hundred to well over a thousand dollars. By sticking to a firm budget price, you can avoid being pressured into buying something you cannot afford.

    • 3

Visit the stores in your area that sell mattress. Test out the displays on the showroom floor. If you find one that seems right and fits your budget, check out the other stores to see if they carry the same mattress or something similar for a better price.

Ask about a trial period if you’re just not sure. If a trial period is offered, take advantage of the option and test the mattress out, at home, for as long as possible to make sure it is the best choice for you.

Don’t be afraid to haggle the price. Let the salesman know that you can get the same or similar mattress at another store for a better price. Often the salesman will meet or beat the price of a competitor.

Don’t be pressured into buying a name brand. Many of the knock off brands have the same warranty and quality of the more expensive brands.
