How to Use a Waterbed Water Pump

While not an impossible task, draining a waterbed mattress can be a time-consuming and sometimes frustrating endeavor. In order to make the process go a little faster you can use a waterbed water pump, which will cut a lot of time off of the project. Because draining a waterbed isn't something you do every day, a pump is likely not something you have sitting around. Luckily a lot of furniture and moving supply stores rent the pumps, saving you the cost of purchasing one.

Instructions

    • 1

Turn the power off on your waterbed heater and disconnect it from its power source.

    • 2

Remove the cap and plug insert from your waterbed mattress and pull the valve out from the mattress. The cap and plug insert are located at the foot of the bed and valve sits below them.

    • 3

Insert the hose connector from your waterbed fill kit into the open valve. Surround the valve with books or other heavy objects to keep the hose connector from popping out of the valve.

    • 4

Attach the hose connector to the hose that is attached to the suction side of the waterbed pump. Connect your garden hose to the other side -- the outlet side -- of the waterbed pump.

    • 5

Run the garden hose to wherever you want the water to drain to -- the easiest places to run the water are to a bathtub or out a window. Turn the waterbed pump's power on and let it run until all of the water has drained from your waterbed.
