Mattress Quality Complaints

Mattress quality can make a big difference for your health. When you get a good night's sleep, your body is refreshed and ready to take on the day. Liz Ackerman is a sleep expert, for Mattress Discounters in Reno, Nevada. She says that people come into her store with the same common complaints about their mattress at home. According to Ackerman, the three most common mattress quality issues are cheap materials, stability and sagging. People often return cheap mattresses and buy high-quality brands.
  1. Sagging

    • Ackerman says sagging mattresses are a major problem. A saggy mattress results in an uneven distribution of weight on the bed. One person may fall into the sagging area resulting in an uncomfortable sleep position. Sagging is not uncommon with older mattresses, but some newer brands made with cheap coils will also sag, especially if the people sleeping on the mattress are heavy. If a person is overweight, they may want to invest in a higher quality mattress with durable coils. Ackerman recommends buying a more durable mattress such as a Sterns and Foster.

She also say Tempur-Pedic is a good option because these mattresses are made without coils. They are made with memory foam material originally developed by NASA. This type of mattress eliminates sagging by molding to your shape.

    Stability

    • People also complain about the stability of their mattress, says Ackerman. If there are lumps from defaults in manufacturing, the mattress will not be as stable. Lumps from coils that pop up can dig into your back, causing poor quality sleep. When the mattress is not even all on four corners, this can have the same effect as sagging. Sleeping on a stable surface is vital to back and spine health.

    Cheap Materials

    • Another common mattress quality complaint is the materials. Cheap materials become a problem because the mattress will not last as long. These mattresses have a thin top with little cushioning and materials that fall apart easily. Many mattress stores do not carry poor quality mattresses, but be sure to check the durability of the materials before buying any mattress.

How does the mattress feel? Do the materials look cheap or are threads coming off? Generally, the only mattresses made with these low-quality materials are futons, camper mattress and some children's beds. However, Elizabeth says to check over the mattress regardless and do your homework ahead of time by reading online reviews for brands you are interested in purchasing.
