Standard fitted queen sheets measure 60 by 80 inches. Flat sheets can vary depending on the manufacturer, but any excess length can be tucked under the mattress and should not be a concern when purchasing sheet sets.
Full-sized fitted sheets measure 54 by 75 inches; similar to queen-sized flat sheets, full-sized flat sheets can vary but should not affect the look of the dressed bed.
Besides the mattress size, sheets are also sold in various pocket depths. The pocket depth measures the length of the seam from the top of the fitted sheet down each corner to the elastic band, which tucks under the mattress for a snug fit. Standard sheet depth is 7 to 9 inches. Deep sheets, which will accommodate a mattress topper or thick mattress pad, measure 10 to 15 inches. Extra-deep sheets are usually unavailable in full sizes and are as deep as 22 inches to accommodate thick pillow-top mattresses.
Despite the fact that queen-sized pillows are readily available, queen-sized pillow cases are not often manufactured. A queen pillow is the same width but 4 inches longer than a standard pillow and will fit inside a standard pillowcase, which measures 21 by 32 inches.
Sheet sets sold for full-sized beds typically come with one or two standard pillowcases, which should be used with standard pillows for the best fit across the head of the bed.
In a pinch, you can substitute a standard-depth set of queen-sized sheets for a full-sized bed. Full-size fitted sheets will not fit on a queen-sized mattress; however, it is possible to use two full-sized flat sheets on a queen-sized mattress temporarily.
