Cut two rectangular sheets of wool measuring the size of mattress you want. For example, a King-sized mattress ordinarily measures about 60-by-80 inches. Cut the fabric sheets to where they measure about six inches larger at each side. This means, to create a 60 by 80 inch mattress you will need 70 by 90 inches of fabric in each sheet. The excess room makes it easier to stuff and seal the mattress.
Spread one of the wool sheets out in front of you, smoothing out any wrinkles in the fabric.
Layer a 2-inch thick layer of cotton batting the size of the desired mattress over the center of the wool sheet.
Layer a 2-inch thick rectangular sheet of egg-crate foam over the batting. Make sure the foam rectangle equals the batting measurements.
Cover the egg-crate foam layer with a second 2-inch layer of cotton batting.
Layer the second sheet of wool material over top the layer of batting.
Apply a thick line of fabric glue along the edges of the bottom wool fabric sheet. Make the line about two inches wide along all four edges. Fold the top wool sheet down over the sides evenly. Bring up the bottom sheet so the glued edges overlap the top sheet. Press the glued edges together. This seals in the batting and egg-crate foam. Let the mattress dry for about two to three hours to completely set.
