Types of Mattress Fabric

The outside covering of a mattress, known as ticking, can be made of organic cotton, pure wool or memory foam, among other choices. Each of these materials provides benefits for the sleeper. How the ticking fabric feels often plays a roll in which mattress consumers choose to buy.
  1. Organic Cotton Fabric

    • This type of fabric contains no pesticides, chemicals, mineral oils, defoliants, fertilizers or dyes, which results in a soft mattress texture. Organic cotton farmers do not add bleach or any kind of wrinkle resistant treatment to the fabric which could cause harm due to toxins.

    Pure Wool Fabric

    • Lanolin, a natural product of wool, repels dust mites. Wool keeps the sleeper cool in summer and warm in winter because of insulating properties. Naturally flame retardant and mold resistant, wool mattress fabric is not bulky and provides comfort without extra plushness.

    High-Density Memory Foam

    • High-density foam absorbs energy and is temperature sensitive. Memory foam forms to the shape placed upon it, which makes it an excellent choice for those with joint problems as it provides good support for the body. The original mattress shape returns once the object, in this case, the sleeper, is removed. As an extra bonus, dust mites cannot get through the foam, thus making it a clean choice.
