The Size of a Full Bed Mattress

Full-size mattresses, or double beds, are a popular alternative to narrow twin beds and bulky queens. They offer the owner the ability to move comfortably in the bed and to maintain open space in the room.
  1. Width

    • At 53 to 54 inches in width, full-size mattresses are approximately 15 inches wider than twin mattresses and seven inches narrower than queen mattresses. This may not be the ideal selection if two individuals intend to share the bed, as it doesn't provide as much room for personal space as a queen.

    Length

    • Full mattresses are generally recommended for individuals under 5 feet 5 inches in height. However, like twin mattresses, they are 75 inches long. Therefore, sleepers close to or over 6 feet 3 inches in height are the only ones likely to find a full mattress to be too short.

    Thickness

    • Thickness is the only measurement that is not standard for mattresses. How thick a full mattress is depends on its brand and make. Therefore, thicknesses do not necessarily change as mattress size increases from twin to king.
