Release all the air from the current air chamber. If you have a dual-air chamber system, select the side you will be replacing. Press the down arrow on the remote until the setting reads "zero."
Remove all bedding from the mattress.
Unzip the mattress cover completely and set aside. If you purchased a Sleep Number i10 model, the mattress may have two zippers: an upper zipper for a foam mattress insert and a lower zipper to allow you access to the air chambers.
Remove the Intralux Ultra comfort pad from the inner mattress and set aside. This will only be necessary on Sleep Number i8 models.
Unhook the old air chamber from the firmness control system. The firmness control system is located at the head of the bed. It is not necessary to unplug the firmness control system before removing the old air chamber.
Discard the old air chamber.
Remove the new air chamber from its packaging and unfold. Be sure to inspect the new air chamber for any defects before installing.
Lay the new air chamber flat on the bottom of the mattress with the hose facing the head of the bed.
Uncap the hose on the air chamber. Select Comfort recommends you place the cap inside the mattress at the head of the bed for storage.
Connect the hose on the air chamber to the firmness control system. Press the hose until you hear a click.
Press the up arrow on the remote to inflate the air chamber to "20" on the digital readout. It may take a few seconds for the air chamber to begin filling.
Inspect the new air chamber to ensure there are no noticeable leaks.
Replace the Intralux Ultra comfort pad, if necessary.
Ensure that border wraps are securely over the air chamber (i10 models) or the Intralux Ultra comfort pad (i8 models).
Replace and re-zip the mattress cover.
