How to Drain a Fiber-Filled Water Bed

Water beds are trickier to than a traditional bed and mattress. The water bed mattress must be drained before the bed can be taken apart for moving. Fiber-filled water bed mattresses must be drained carefully so the fiber inside the mattress is not sucked out of the mattress with the water.

Instructions

    • 1

Sort through the fill and drain kit. Find the gadget that looks like a "T." Unplug the heater for the water bed. Never leave the heater on and plugged in when draining the water bed mattress.

    • 2

Open the drain valve on the water bed mattress at the foot of the bed. Use the side rail on the bed to "burp" the bed. Run the side rail over the mattress moving from the head of the mattress to the valve. This will remove any air bubbles from the mattress.

    • 3

Attach the electric pump hose that comes with the unit to the inlet side of the pump. Wind the "T" into the water bed valve. Attach the pump hose to the other end of the "T." Wind the garden hose onto the electric pump outlet.

Place the other end of the garden hose in the bathtub. If you have a bedroom window, run the hose out the window.

    • 5

Plug in the pump and turn it on. Continue to stand and watch the pump. Move the pump hose and "T" around as the water level goes down in the mattress so that pump is always sucking water. When the mattress is empty, turn off the pump and unplug.
