Mattress Warranty Issues

A mattress warranty can protect an owner from manufacturer defects, such as design, construction flaws or materials, for a certain period of time. A warranty is not a guarantee of durability, and will not cover general wear and tear or loss of comfort over time.
  1. What is Covered

    • The problems a mattress warranty covers is dependent upon the type of bed, such as an innerspring, memory foam, water-bed, adjustable bed or air mattress. Broken springs or open seams may be covered by a warranty for an innerspring mattress, whereas specific components like remote controls or motors may be covered for more specialized mattresses.

    Time Period

    • The length of time a warranty is effective can be anywhere from 10 to 20 years, depending on the manufacturer. Warranty-covered issues typically reveal themselves within the first few years after purchase, according to Best Bed Guide. Though a warranty may last for a significant period of time, it does not guarantee that the mattress will not need to be replaced due to support deterioration before the warranty expires.

    Voided Warranty

    • A manufacturer's warranty may become void if the mattress is soiled, the mattress tags have been removed, the original sales receipt or warranty paperwork is missing, or if the mattress is used with an incorrect frame or foundation piece.
