How to Carry a King Mattress

King size mattresses are the largest standard mattresses available commercially. A normal king size mattress is 80 inches by 76 inches, which is small enough to fit through a standard doorway but large enough to require two people to carry it. It will be necessary to enlist a helper to safely carry a king mattress. There are guidelines to carrying a mattress of that size to prevent damage to the innerspring coil system.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand at the foot of the mattress with your helper. Grasp the foot of the mattress and turn it so the head of the mattress hangs off one side of the bed frame and the foot hangs off the other side.

    • 2

Stand at the head of the mattress and have your helper stand at the foot. Place one hand on the right corner of the mattress and the other hand under the mattress. Have the helper do the same at the opposite end.

    • 3

Lift the mattress up with the hand underneath it, supporting it flat on its side with your other hand. Walk slowly, one person moving backwards while the other person guides him.

    • 4

Continue supporting the weight of the mattress with your lower hand while holding it straight and upright with the other hand. Do not bend the mattress under any circumstance because it will damage the innersprings. If you need to move around corners, gently flex the mattress without bending it.
