How to Clean a Softside Waterbed

Softside is a specialty waterbed retailer. Waterbeds have been around since the 19th century and can be found in many homes. They provide a fluid, contoured surface to relax and sleep on. Like any other piece of furniture, waterbeds have to be cared for and cleaned on a regular basis. The biggest difference between a waterbed and traditional mattresses is waterbeds can become a breeding ground for mold. Maintaining and cleaning a Softside waterbed is a straightforward process.

Instructions

    • 1

Strip your Softside water bed of its sheets, pillow cases, comforter and mattress cover. Set your clothes washer on a normal cycle and add 2 cups of distilled white vinegar with 1/4 cup of laundry detergent. Launder as usual.

    • 2

Mix 2-tablespoons of baking soda into 2-cups of distilled water in a mixing bowl. Stir with a spatula until the baking soda dissolves. Dampen a clean cloth in the mixture and scrub away any stains or spots on your Softside waterbed. Use a different cloth to wipe away any baking soda residue with distilled water.

    • 3

Wipe down your whole Softside waterbed with outside vinyl cleaner using another clean cloth. This helps not only to clean but preserve your waterbed.

    • 4

Add biocide to the water in your Softside, following the manufacturer's instructions. Biocide keeps bacterias and molds form growing and contaminating the water in your Softside bed. This reduces chances of becoming ill due to bacteria and mold growing inside your mattress.
