Check to make sure that the air pump is correctly inserted into the air-intake opening as the most common problem with inflation is an improper seal. The seal must be snug to avoid leaks. Use a pencil or pen to manually open the air passage and make sure it is not obstructed. If the bed has a built-in pump, make sure the air intake is not blocked. Screw the cap tightly over the opening to avoid leaks, once the bed is inflated. If the cap, built-in pump or intake openings are defective return the air bed if it is under warranty.
Determine if the bed has a leak. If the bed inflates but does not retain air, there is a leak. To locate the leak, fill the bed with air, then submerge it under water. Leaks will be evident as bubbles stream out. Check around the air intake opening and make sure the cap is on tight.
Understand that most beds develop leaks over time. Patch any leaks as soon as they are found. Most mattresses come with a patch kit. Purchase a kit at a department store, sporting and camping supply store or bicycle shop if necessary.
Call customer service if you still can't find the problem yourself. A number should be available in the documentation that came with the bed.
