How to Move a Difficult Queen Mattress

Mattresses can be tricky to move successfully. With doorways, turns, stairs and obstacles to navigate, it can take some maneuvering with the help of another person. Fortunately, a queen size mattress is smaller than a California King or King sized mattress, making it slightly easier to move. You may need to move your mattress to another room or perhaps you need to replace the mattress.

Instructions

    • 1

Take off all bedding such as sheets, comforters, pillows and mattress covers.

    • 2

Clear the area you'll be moving the mattress through. For example make sure doorways are open and clear and move any furniture along the path to where the mattress is going.

    • 3

Have an assistant pick up one end of the mattress while you pick up the other. Turn the mattress so it is being carried on its side and not flat.

    • 4

Lift the mattress and carefully navigate it through the building. Since the queen mattress is slightly flexible, you will be able to bend it some to navigate tight turns. Hold the mattress to guard against it unbending suddenly. Do not bend the mattress itself more than 10 to 15 degrees as this can cause damage to the internal coils.

    • 5

Rotate and turn the mattress different ways to find the correct angle if you can't get through a doorway or around a corner.
