What are a Full Size Bed's Dimensions?

Full size beds, also called double beds, are 54 inches by 75 inches, which is wider than a twin bed by 15 inches, but six inches narrower than a queen size bed. The length is the same as a twin bed, but five inches shorter than a queen size bed.
  1. Benefits

    • Full size beds will fit into rooms that are small in size. It will be easier to navigate tight corners and staircases with low ceilings than if you were trying to move a queen or king size mattress. These mattresses are ideal for a guest room or for a child that needs more room than what a twin bed offers. Bedding for a full size bed is less expensive than bedding for a queen or king size bed.

    Drawbacks

    • Two adults sleeping on a full size bed will only have 27 inches of sleep space, which could cause concern for comfort. The beds are shorter than a queen size mattress, which is 80 inches long. Taller people may find the length too short for a comfortable sleep. Full size beds are more comfortable for one person than they are for two people.

    Mattress Bed Sheets

    • Bed sheets for a full size mattress sold in packages come with one flat sheet, one fitted sheet and two pillow cases for standard pillows. Flat sheets are 80 inches by 94 inches. Fitted sheets are 54 inches by 75 inches and pillow cases are 20 inches by 30 inches. Sheets for a full size bed are sold as a set or sold separately so you can mix and match colors. The depths of the pockets on the fitted sheets vary between 7 and 22 inches so you can always find a sheet to fit the depth or thickness of the mattress.

    Other Bedding

    • Comforters are made in two sizes: full size or full/queen size. Full size comforters are 80 inches by 90 inches. Full/queen comforters are 88 inches by 88 inches. Down comforters are made as a full/queen size. Comforters measure 90 inches by 98 inches. Standard pillows for a full size bed measure 20 inches by 26 inches.
