How to Relieve Adjustable Air Mattress Pressure Points

While air mattresses may have less potential to cause pressure points due to lack of coils and frames, there's still a chance you will feel some points of pressure when you lay down on the mattress. Air mattresses can be adjusted to relieve these points by reducing the firmness. You can reduce firmness by decreasing the air pressure inside the mattress.

Instructions

    • 1

Determine if you have an air mattress that self inflates with an adjustable compressor or inflates with a manual pump. If it is self inflating, skip to Step 3, otherwise proceed to Step 2.

    • 2

Blow up the air mattress with the pump to the desired firmness. Lay on the mattress in your normal sleeping position. If you still feel pressure points, let out some of the air and try again until the pressure points are less noticeable.

    • 3

Adjust the firmness or pressure control on the compressor to a lower firmness. Try out the firmness by lying on the mattress. Readjust as needed.

    • 4

Try sleeping in different positions to further reduce pressure points.
