How to Lift a Deep Pocket Mattress

Deep pocket mattresses get their name due to the type of sheets that are placed on them. Deep pocket sheets have corners, or pockets, that are longer and deeper than standard sheets to accommodate a thicker mattress. A mattress is often considered "deep pocket" if it is 8 inches or thicker. Deep pocket mattresses can be up to 14 inches thick. Depending on the mattress manufacturer, mattresses 8 to 9 inches thick may still be labeled as a standard mattress, however.

Instructions

    • 1

Take all of the sheets and bedding off of the mattress. Remove any mattress covers.

    • 2

Have one person stand at the head of the bed while you stand at the foot of the bed. Grasp underneath the mattress and have another person do the same.

    • 3

Together lift up the mattress up and off of the box spring. Turn it sideways so it is standing on one long side on the floor.

    • 4

Hold one end while the other person holds the other end. For stability, hold the mattress end with one hand on the top and the other hand underneath the bottom edge of the mattress. Lift the mattress up off the ground to begin moving it to its next destination.
