How to Get a Water Mark Off of a Mattress

Whether they’re the result of bed-wetting or a spilled beverage, mattress stains can be an eyesore. In some cases, an unpleasant odor will even accompany the watermark. Cleaning and deodorizing a mattress is a delicate procedure. Hydrogen peroxide and white vinegar are useful tools during the cleaning process, but if you use the wrong techniques, you’ll be left with the stain, odor and possibility of mold and mildew.

Instructions

    • 1

Blot any remaining liquid with the towel until the mattress is dry. Don’t rub the liquid or you will widen the stain.

    • 2

Fill a spray bottle with hydrogen peroxide. Spray the stain and allow it to sit for five minutes.

    • 3

Blot the area dry with the towel.

    • 4

Clean the spray bottle. Refill it with water and distilled white vinegar.

    • 5

Spray the area and blot it with the towel. The vinegar will not only aid in removing the stain, but it will also deodorize the mattress and hinder the growth of mold and mildew.

    • 6

Allow the mattress to dry outside or near an open window.
