How to Make No-Sew Slipcovers

That old couch getting you down? Are those claw marks your cat made ages ago just starting to bug you? Or is it just time for a change? Slipcovers can make an old couch good as new and help change an entire room's decor. While making a slipcover may seem daunting, it does not necessarily have to be a strenuous task. Slipcovers can be made in just an hour or two, entirely without sewing. Just use some fabric or an old set of flat sheets dark enough to cover up the pattern or color of the old couch and some safety pins, and you should be all set for a new look to an old piece of furniture.

Instructions

    • 1

Choose a thick fabric. The thicker it is, the easier it will be to cover up any tears or rips in the couch. Thicker fabric will also cover up the couch's previous color or pattern.

    • 2

Measure your couch's cushion pieces, and cut out pieces that are about 5 to 6 inches larger than your cushion along all the edges.

    • 3

Wrap the cushions in the cut fabric, using the safety pins to pin the fabric inside. Do this for each of the cushions.

    • 4

With the cushions off, drape the large fabric or sheet over the couch. Tuck the fabric into all of the couch's crevices.

    • 5

Take any remaining fabric and tuck it under the couch.

    • 6

Pin any places where the fabric slacks or seems messy. By using the safety pins, this should allow you to create a more fitted look.
