The Best Ways to Clean Microfiber Furniture

One of the reasons microfiber furniture is so popular is because it is so easy to clean and maintain. Microfiber is the smallest man-made fiber on the market. It is a hundred times thinner than human hair. Fabrics made from microfiber are very lightweight and soft. Cleaning microfiber furniture is not a difficult process.
  1. Microfiber Furniture is Stain Resistant

    • Some of microfiber's popularity is due to the fact that it is stain resistant. This makes Scotchgard and other fabric protection products that may be offered by furniture stores unnecessary.

    Microfiber Cleaning Products

    • Most cleaning products designed for microfiber work much better than standard household cleaning products because microfiber products don't contain fabric softeners and bleach. Fabric softeners will clog the microscopic pores that are so effective in keeping microfiber stain resistant. Bleach will break down microfibers over time, making the microfiber less resistant to stains with each successive cleaning.

Many microfiber furniture cleaning products are made from a special blend of cleaning agents which provide superb cleaning of microfiber furniture and perform well for dusting.

Best Ways to Clean Microfiber Furniture

    • Cleaning microfiber is an easy process if it is genuine microfiber and not an impostor. Most microfiber furniture uses polyester for a base fabric since it is able to absorb colors better than many other materials.

For general cleaning of microfiber furniture, use Micro-Restore or another specialty cleaning product on a soft cloth and lightly dust the furniture. You can also make your own specialty cleaner by mixing water with a couple drops of a mild dish detergent or laundry soap.

To clean lint off the furniture, use a lint roller made from sticky tape. Vacuuming will help to remove the lint as well.

Eliminate urine or food odors by blotting stains with distilled water and white vinegar, then applying some baking soda and vacuuming the furniture.

You may want to have your microfiber furniture steam cleaned occasionally. Steam cleaning is generally safe, but it would still be wise to hire a professional steam cleaning service for the job.
