How to Remove an Ink Stain on Leather

Ink pens seem to find their way to every surface except paper. From an accidental brush with an uncapped pen to an artistic 3-year-old who naturally lacks an understanding of the term "acceptable canvas," ink on leather can cause initial panic. Leather is expensive, requiring particular care. Before you call out the professionals and hand over the cash, consider fixing the problem at home first.

Instructions

    • 1

Apply isopropyl alcohol to a soft clean cloth or cotton swab. Gently wipe away the ink stain. Do not over saturate the area. Use a clean dry cloth to remove any excess moisture.

    • 2

Rub petroleum jelly onto the stain with a soft clean cloth. Allow it to sit for 2 to 3 days before wiping the area clean with another cloth.

    • 3

Spray hairspray onto a soft clean cloth and wipe it gently onto the stain. Allow it to sit for 4 to 5 minutes before wiping it again with a clean cloth.

    • 4

Dip a clean cloth in Sprite and gently wipe the ink stain with it until it. Wipe the area clean after the stain is gone with a barely damp cloth to remove any residual stickiness. Allow it to air dry.

    • 5

Rub the area gently with a white pencil eraser or leather eraser to remove the stain.
