Wash marble surfaces with lukewarm water occasionally, and use a clean cloth to dry it off. Wash the surface with hand washing detergent solution twice a year and wipe dry. Buff the marble to get its shine back.
Use a 'marble cleaner or marble polish' for marble furniture that has become pale with years. Use tin oxide (commonly known as Putty Powder) to polish dull surface. Apply it and clean with a damp cloth.
Make a thick paste and let it remain on the marble furniture for three or more hours. Take a damp clean sponge and wipe off the paste. Rinse the sponge, wring out and wipe again till the marble is cleaned. Do not forget to buff it to restore its old shine. Cleaning the stains on the marble piece depends on the intensity and type of the stain. For instance, if it is a rust stain, combine whiting (calcium carbonate that you get from hardware store) with liquid cleaner for rust removal.
Make a paste with nail polish remover and whiting, and apply it on the marble surface, if the stain on the marble is of an oily nature, If it is a food stain on the marble, mix the whiting with little ammonia and few drops of peroxide. Put the mixture over the stain and cover the soiled marble with plastic wrap to absorb the stain. Let the plastic remain this way for hours and then clean it with sponge and buff it to get back the old shine. If there have been surface scratches on the marble, rather than a stain, you can remove it easily with sand paper. Then use commercial marble polish power; mix it with water and wipe the area well.
Maintain the wood furniture and restore its look because wood furniture can wither with regular wear and tear. It is natural for wood furniture to be marred by stains, discoloration and scratches.
For light surface scratches, make use of soft cloth moistened with furniture polish and apply it on the surface of the wood furniture to ease out the marks. For deeper scratches, use clear wax stick. Move the wax stick in the direction opposite to that of the scratch, and use a soft rag to wipe off the excess matter.
To fix the dent on the wood furniture, cover the dent with paper towel that is dipped in clear water. Then, take an iron, increase it heat settings to the highest and press it on to the den. The steam will lift the wood grains and the dent will disappear. Use a sanding sponge to scuff the rough grain and wipe clean. Also apply lacquer or a slight coating of lemon oil to restore the shine.
If some piece of wood furniture are broken or ripped, you can have it restored. Coat the broken piece of wood on both sides with wood glue. Then stick the piece back and wait till the glue cures. Once this is done, you can rub off the excess glue with a dry cloth.
