Balance the contrasting wood colors and styles throughout the living room. For example, have contrasting pieces such as an entertainment center, arm chairs, end tables and a coffee table of light and dark wood colors evenly distributed throughout the room. All light pieces on one end and all dark pieces at the other end of the living room cause the appearance of the room to be imbalanced.
Coordinate upholstery and window treatments. Coordinated fabrics on the sofa, chairs and windows pull the design of the living room together. This does not mean the fabrics have to be the same all over the room. Coordinate by pulling together colors and prints that work well together rather than putting the same print of fabric on every surface.
Add coordinated accessories to the living room. Throw pillows, pottery or interesting found objects aid in bringing the different wood and styles together in the living room.
